What kind of applicant am I?
Licensed to dispense eyeglasses only
An applicant who currently holds a certificate of registration as a student optician or equivalent certificate from another Canadian province who, at the time he or she applies is licensed or registered and in good standing, to dispense eyeglasses but not contact lenses, will be accepted for a certificate of registration as a registered student optician in Ontario. As a requirement of registration these applicants must be enrolled in an accredited opticianry program to complete their contact lens education.
Upon successful completion of an accredited contact lens program, the applicant will be eligible for a certificate of registration as a registered intern optician, after which he/she may challenge the National Contact Lens Examination. If the applicant is successful, he/she will become eligible to apply for a certificate of registration as a registered optician.
