7. What happens after I complete PLAR?
- Should the applicant be successful at the assessment, the Registration Committee may direct him / her to apply for a certificate of registration as a registered intern optician. A registered intern optician is eligible to attempt the National Eyeglass and Contact Lens Examinations. An intern optician is permitted to dispense eye glasses, contact lenses and subnormal vision devices under the supervision of a registered optician, optometrist or physician in Ontario. Upon successful completion of the examinations, the applicant is eligible to apply for a certificate of registration as an optician.
- Should the applicant be unsuccessful at their assessment, they will be directed by the Registration Committee to undergo specified bridging programs that may include additional training. The applicant will be directed to apply for a certificate of registration as a registered student optician to enable completion of the bridging programs.
- The Registration Committee may direct the applicant to enroll in an accredited opticianry program.
