Registration Requirements

Who can apply?

Applicants who have graduated from or are currently enrolled in an accredited opticianry program recognized by the College will be accepted for a certificate of registration as either a registered optician or registered student or registered intern optician, provided that they meet all registration requirements.

Applicants educated in Canada and internationally educated applicants; who have not graduated from an accredited and recognized program, or do not currently hold a certificate of registration with a Canadian opticianry regulator outside of Ontario may be accepted for registration if they have a combination of knowledge, skills, experience and abilities which are, in the opinion of the College’s Registration Committee, substantially equivalent to the ones required for new applicants under the Colleges Regulation. After they have completed a Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process, these applicants may be directed to complete further examinations, testing, education, training, experience and other upgrading and/or assessments as determined by the Registration Committee.

Applicants who currently hold a certificate of registration with a Canadian opticianry regulator outside of Ontario will be accepted for a certificate of registration in Ontario as either a registered optician or registered student optician or registered intern optician provided that they meet all registration requirements.
