Exemptible Registration Requirements


For Registered Opticians

The following are exemptible registration requirements for a certificate of registration as a registered optician:

  1. For applicants who DO NOT currently hold a certificate of registration as an optician or equivalent certificate from another Canadian province:
    1. The applicant must be registered at the time of application as a student optician or intern optician.
    2. The applicant must have completed, and must present evidence of a least 250 eye glasses fittings, including 100 multi- focal fittings and twenty-five high myopic or hyperopic fittings, under the supervision or direction of an optician, an optometrist or an ophthalmologist.
    3.  The applicant must have completed, and must present evidence of, at least twenty contact lens fittings, including at least five rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lens fittings, under the supervision or direction of an optician who is certified in the fitting of contact lenses or an optometrist or an ophthalmologist.
  2. For applicants who DO currently hold a certificate of registration as an optician or equivalent certificate from another Canadian province:
    1. Applicants who hold a certificate of registration as an optician or equivalent certificate from another Canadian province are deemed to have met the exemptible registration requirements set out above. There are no additional exemptible registration requirements.

Note: There are no exemptible registration requirements for certificates of registration as a registered intern or student optician.
