Accredited Education Applicant
Applicants for registration who have graduated from or are currently enrolled in an accredited Opticianry program recognized by the College of Opticians of Ontario (College) will be accepted for registration provided that they meet the general registration requirements. The National Accreditation Committee of Opticianry Regulators (NACOR) issued program accreditation to the Opticianry programs offered at the following educational institutions: Georgian College, Seneca College, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and Douglas College.
Application Forms and Guides:
The Student & Intern and Optician Application Form are the official application forms for individuals applying for registration with the College. This includes new students and recent graduates from Ontario and opticians coming from other jurisdictions within or outside of Canada who have been approved to apply for a certificate of registration as either a registered student optician or registered intern optician or registered optician with the College. The Application Guides have been provided to assist you with the completion of the Application Forms and includes important information regarding membership with the College.
If you are not a new student or recent graduate from Ontario, or if you are applying from another jurisdiction within or outside of Canada and have not received approval to apply for a certificate of registration do not complete the Student & Intern or Optician Application Form. Application Process:
Applicants for a certificate of registration as an optician:
Applicants for registration as a registered optician in Ontario must be graduates from an educational program that is approved by the College or one deemed equivalent by the College’s Registration Committee and must have successfully completed the National Eyeglass and Contact Lens Examinations. Furthermore it is a requirement of registration that these applicants submit 1,000 hours of verified dispensing experience (PDF).
Applicants for a certificate of registration as an intern optician:
Applicants who have graduated from an educational program approved by the College or those who are required by the registration committee to complete additional training or specified examinations or both, have completed additional training but have not yet challenged the National Eyeglass and National Contact Lens Examinations must apply for a certificate of registration as a registered intern optician. Intern opticians may apply for a certificate of registration as a registered optician upon successful completion of the National Eyeglass and Contact Lens Examinations.
Applicants for a certificate of registration as a student optician:
Applicants for Registration as a registered student optician in Ontario must be enrolled in an educational program that is approved by the College. The College approved programs are the Opticianry programs offered at Seneca College, Georgian College, NAIT and Douglas College.
