If you were first registered in any of the following years, you are required to submit your QA claims package by December 31, 2011:

Please Note: The College of Opticians of Ontario is NOT responsible for keeping track of individual Members' verification certificates until they are submitted by members to the College as requested for compliance with a Quality Assurance Cycle. Should you need copies of any certificates earned, you must contact the Sponsors of those particular activities, not the College.

Each Optician is required to submit a minimum of thirty (30) Continuing Education Credits at the completion of their individual Quality Assurance cycle. The required breakdown of these credits is listed below.

(EG) Eyeglasses

  • 8 credits minimum (no maximum - these are mandatory credits)
  • Credits in this category represent topics associated with eyeglass technology. Fabrication, fitting techniques, emerging technology and product specific topics related to eyeglasses are all examples of this credit.

(CL) Contact Lenses

  • 8 credits minimum (no maximum - these are mandatory credits)
  • Credits in this category represent topics associated with contact lens technology. Fabrication, fitting techniques, emerging technology and product specific topics related to contact lenses are all examples of this credit.

(EG/CL) Eyeglasses/Contact Lenses

  • 8 credits minimum (no maximum - these are mandatory credits for opticians who have obtained refracting designation by the College of Opticians of Ontario)
  • Credits in this category represent topics and activities associated with the anatomy, physiology of the eye, the visual pathway, ocular structures and systems. Topics in this category would not be product specific.
  • Examples include, but are not limited to: Ocular anatomy and physiology (anatomical structure and systems, pharmacology and impact on dispensing to client); Visual pathway (Accommodation and vision acuity evaluation, ophthalmic instruments and there use in visual acuity evaluation and dispensing); ocular motility; Visual anomalies and the impact on dispensing to client; Low vision evaluation and dispensing

(GB) General Business

  • 5 credits maximum (no minimum - these are optional credits)
  • Credits in this category represent topics associated with general business practices. Financial, commercial services, sales techniques, as well as post-secondary business courses are all examples of this credit.

(PA) Professional Activity

  • 5 credits maximum (no minimum - these are optional credits)
  • Credits in this category represent activities associated with the profession of Opticianry. Lab tours, AGM’s, regulatory presentations, trade shows are all examples of this credit.

(PE) Professional Experience

  • 5 credits maximum (no minimum - these are optional credits)
