Peer Assessment is the mandatory evaluation of Members for the purpose of verifying adherence to the College’s Standards of Practice by its Membership.
Each year a number of Opticians are selected at random to undergo peer assessment
The Peer Assessment component of the Quality Assurance Program was passed into law in October 1998.
The Peer Assessment component is set out in the Quality Assurance Program requirements provided in the Quality Assurance Regulation under the Opticianry Act, 1991 and the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA).
The assessments take approximately two to three hours to complete
The Peer Assessor will contact the member, prior to the assessment to arrange for a mutually convenient time
The assessment must be carried out at the Member’s normal place of practice.
The College understands that members will still need to attend to their business during a peer assessment. The Peer Assessor will make every effort to minimize the impact on the member’s business throughout the assessment.
Peer Assessors appointed by the College are required to show proper identification in the form of an authorized letter of introduction and a Peer Assessor identification badge.
