Reinstatement (Lifting of Suspension) of a Certificate of Registration as an Optician
Registration Process for Reinstatement of a Certificate of Registration as a Registered Optician
Should a member decide not to renew their certificate of registration as a Registered Optician with the College of Opticians of Ontario in any given registration year they will receive an official notice of default. Their license will be suspended sixty (60) days from the date of issue of the notice default if full payment of their renewal fees and their renewal application form is not received within the two month default period. This is a legal requirement and will occur regardless of the reason for not renewing. We encourage our members to let us know if they will not be renewing.
Members have three years from the date of their suspension in which to reinstate their license to avoid their application being referred to the Registration Committee for review. Should a member’s certificate of registration be suspended and they decide to reinstate their certificate of registration as a registered Optician they must contact the College and request a reinstatement application package and verify / update their home mailing address. A reinstatement application package will then be mailed out.
Once the applicant has recieved final approval of their reinstatement application, they will receive a package by mail containing:
- A new photographic identification badge
- An Official Income Tax Receipt
- A copy of the Opticianry Act, Regulations, By-Laws and Standards of Practice Guidelines
- A Certificate of Registration Certificate Renewal Validation Decal
Upon final approval of the application for reinstatement the newly reinstated optician will continue to follow their original three-year Quality Assurance cycle, based on the date they were first registered with the College of Opticians.
